Flash Friday Review – L’Oreal Paris Hydra Genius Liquid

L'Oreal Paris moisturiser
Every now and then a product comes around the block (This time being L’Oreal Paris Hydra Genius Liquid), laden with rave reviews from bloggers and YouTubers, that I’m just not quite sure about….
It’s not usually the products fault in general, perhaps more its PR team so to speak, but it gets so hyped up that I start to doubt its integrity before I’ve even laid my eyeballs on it.
Lets set the scene.
Big Youtuber/blogger logs onto InstaStories.
“Hiiiiii guys!!!! Just wanted to show you this new product that I am *OBSESSED with!!!
I just LOVE…..
(checks label, as isn’t quite sure what the product is called)
*insert product victim of choice here* ……so much!!!!!
I’ve been using it every day now for the past month (ahem) and it’s just such a staple product!”
I just put one itsy pump onto my hand, smooth it over my face and TADA!
Look at my skin (possibly filtered skin), it’s all down to this wonderful product.
I love it!
Big YouTuber/Blogger logs off InstaStories and the product mentioned falls into the abyss never to be seen nor mentioned again.

The end.

L’Oreal Paris Hydra Genius Liquid was the victim this time.
I had seen this raved/advertised so much that I wasn’t even prepared to give it a chance.

So how am I reviewing it today then, you may ask?
Though the want of spending Boots advantage cards points is your answer dear reader.
Boots currently have this liquid on offer, reduced from £9.99 to £6.66 and I love nothing more than a Boots offer, especially if I’m spending my free money/advantage card points.
And to also be completely honest I was expecting it to be a hella lot more expensive than that, so you can say I was pleasantly surprised.

So is it worth the hype?

Yes/maybe/no… I’ve been using this for over a week now, and although it’s a nice addition to my skincare routine, I wouldn’t say it will become an essential.
The liquid is marketed at you using this instead of your daily moisturiser, and even though I’m using the one recommended for my skin type I’m not sure I would use it as a replacement for my moisturiser as I like to feel properly plumped and borderline shiny.
I have however been using this as a serum, which seems to work better with my skin. Its super liquidy (hence the name!) but absorbs really nicely, leaving your face feeling smooth and fresh.
 And the smell!
Summer skin and fresh showers are what it reminds me of.
The smell alone is actually enough for me to buy it again, so if you’re not a fan of scented products avoid this.

All in all, I’m glad a wasn’t put off of trying this as I’m really enjoying using it so far (well as much as you can enjoy putting creams on your face, which for me sadly enough, is a lot. ).Would I buy it again?

If I can find it on offer when I run out then most likely, but I’m not sure I would spend a tenner on it.

Unless its Boots points.

This actually replaced L'Oreal YouthCode range and it's not something that I will try because it'll be too light for me. My dry-normal and mature skin definitely need something more.

I totally get what you mean about products being raved about, I've seen this everywhere! I've not actually tried it yet, I might give it a go if it's on offer!

I definitely agree with your review! I tried out a sample of this product the other day and whilst it was really lovely, I don't think I would rush to purchase or make it an essential in my skincare routine. I love the packaging on it though xx

Wow the packaging looks so luxurious despite being a drugstore product! Initially I was confused at what it was, it definitely does look more like a serum than a moisturiser. Have you found any difference in your skin texture after using it? And I definitely agree with you about new products being raved about just because a blogger/Youtuber had received them for review! So irritating!

For the same reasons you mentioned I was planning on getting this on the weekend, but now I am not sure, what is your skin type? I have oily skin and I thought this was supposed to be really good for oily skin. Thank you for sharing, great review Kate. Hope you are having a brilliant day x

I haven't seen this before. After reading your review, I'd rather try a sample before getting a full size product.

Heard so much about this lately, but I doubt I'll be picking it up, as it doesn't sound like anything particularly life changing and exciting xx

I agree with you on this 'raving' thing that is getting out of control !
i have seen this moisturizer everywhere too and it is good but not something revolutionary! definitely worth getting whenever it is on sale!

I was curious about these products, I finished many bottles of the YouthCode Serum but I haven't tried this one yet, everyone had great reviews on their blogs and that made me wanting to buy and try it myself!! x

I've been trying a lot of products from L'oreal recently, but have haven't come across this yet! Will definitely give it a try as the pure clay range has been amazing for me! xxx

There is nothing more annoying than all these big youtubers and bloggers mentioning a product a couple of times, hyping it and then never to be seen ever again. I may have fallen victim into that at one point but I will never do that again! Anyway, thank you for a very honest review. It does sound good and not that expensive so I might give this a shot as I am looking for a new moisturizer I can use during the day that is light and liquid-y. 🙂

I know exactly what you mean. The more something is hyped sometimes the more I think I'll give it a miss. I've seen mixed reviews about this, mainly echoing what you said that it's nice but not show stopping. Personally I'm wary of scented skincare so thanks for the heads up.
